Purpose
Section 88.37(1) of the Municipal Elections Act requires municipalities to establish a Compliance Audit Committee before October 1 of an election year.
The Town of Huntsville will be partnering with the Muskoka Towns and Townships for the 2026-2030 term of Council:
- Town of Bracebridge
- Township of Georgian Bay
- Town of Gravenhurst
- Township of Lake of Bays
- Township of Muskoka Lakes
The Muskoka Compliance Audit Committee (MCAC) receives and makes decisions on applications for compliance audits of candidates’ and registered third party campaign finances as well as any by-election campaign finances. The MCAC is also responsible for reviewing reports submitted to the MCAC by the Clerk with any contributor who appears to have contravened any of the contribution limits to a Candidate’s or Registered Third Party election campaign.
An elector who is entitled to vote in an election and believes on reasonable grounds that a candidate has contravened a provision of the Municipal Elections Act relating to election campaign finances may apply for a compliance audit of the candidate’s election campaign finances, even if the candidate has not filed a financial statement.
Within ten (10) days after receiving the application, the Clerk will forward the application to the MCAC. Reasonable notice of the meetings of the committee shall be given to the candidate, the applicant and the public on the Town’s Council and Committee Calendar page.

Applications across the District of Muskoka are coordinated through the Township of Muskoka Lakes.
