Defaults
A candidate is considered In Default if they do not meet the financial reporting rules set out in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
A candidate may be listed as In Default if they:
- Did not file a required financial statement, or filed it late;
- Did not pay any required surplus or other amount by the deadline;
- Filed a financial statement showing they spent more than the allowed campaign limit.
Being in default can result in penalties under the Act, including not being allowed to hold office in the current and next municipal election.
