Notice of Proposed By-law Amendment - Road Names - April 30, 2026

NOTICE OF PROPOSED BY-LAW AMENDMENT
ROAD NAMES
IN THE TOWN OF HUNTSVILLE

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Huntsville, 
pursuant to Section 11 and 48 of the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended, 
proposes to name the following roads:

Pine Marten Road, Bear Waters Path, Spanner Circle, McCaffery Lane, Timberwolf Lane

in the Town of Huntsville, in the District Municipality of Muskoka.
The proposed by-law amendment will come before Council for consideration at its regular meeting to be held on May 25th, 2026 at the time and location indicated on the Town website.

Written comments regarding the proposed amendment may be submitted to the Clerk at the address below or by email to clerk@huntsville.ca no later than 12 noon on May 13th, 2026

Pine Marten Road – consent file # B/25/2025

Geographic Reference for local wildlife.

The pine marten is a small forest-dwelling mammal found across Canada’s boreal regions, including Huntsville. These animals are known to frequent this area.

This reflects indigenous land use in this area and honours the deep, ongoing relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the land.

Spanner Circle – subdivision file # S2023-01 
(off of Town Line Rd W) 
Casualties of War Huntsville – World War 1 reference:

Commemorating Captain Herbert Spanner (1893–1916) was a Canadian pilot with the Royal Flying Corps (27th Squadron) during World War I. Born in Muskoka, Ontario, he was killed in action at age 23 on December 28, 1916.

McCaffery Lane – condo file # C2022-05 and C2015-06

Casualties of War Huntsville – World War 2 and past Fire Chief reference: 

McCaffery Lane is reference to both a casualty of war from Huntsville and a past Fire Chief.  
Private John Fredrick McCaffery was killed in action near the Arielli River on the Adriatic front in Italy while serving his battalion. He was the son of William D. and Olive McCaffery of Huntsville, Ontario. 

Bill McCaffery, a past Fire Chief who served the Huntsville community with leadership and commitment. His contributions to public safety and his years of service helped protect and strengthen the town, leaving a legacy for future generations.

Timberwolf Lane – consent file # B/17/18/2023

Geographic Reference for local wildlife. 

The timber wolf is an iconic symbol of Canada’s northern wilderness. It stands as a symbol of wilderness and ecological balance. These animals travel through areas like this in Huntsville and the surrounding areas.
