Flood Warning in Effect for Huntsville – April 17 Update
(Huntsville, ON) – As flood conditions continue to evolve and change, the Town is actively monitoring local water levels, waterways, flood situations, and road conditions. The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) flood warning is in effect for our area until April 22.
The Town is strongly advising property owners and businesses in flood-prone and low-lying areas throughout Huntsville, especially in the downtown core, and in Port Sydney to take precautionary measures to protect and secure their property in anticipation of additional forecasted rainfall that will flow through the water system this weekend.
Residents are advised that properties in flooded areas using well water should assume the water is not safe to drink. For flooding resources visit the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit website at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org.
Residents are strongly advised to stay clear of flooded areas, fast-moving water and any spring ice (no ice is safe ice). Parents and guardians are also advised to remind children to stay clear of open waters, creeks, and rivers.
Public Works crews will be prioritizing flood response for the duration of the event and are continuing to assess and repair damaged roads. Residents should obey all posted road closure signs and barricades. Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Even shallow water can be dangerous and may hide washouts or debris.
