Budget & Financial Analyst

Reporting to the Deputy Treasurer, this position supports the Town’s financial operations by coordinating the annual operating and capital budget processes and performing core municipal financial accounting and reporting functions. The position balances budget development, monitoring, and analysis with financial accounting responsibilities to support accurate financial reporting, legislative compliance, and informed decision making by management and Council.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy. They will possess the ability to understand the “big picture” and contribute to departmental strategies, goals, and objectives in alignment with the municipality’s Strategic Plan. The candidate must be collaborative, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement while exercising sound judgement and discretion when handling sensitive financial information and maintaining confidentiality at all times.

In this role, the candidate will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to clearly communicate accounting and budget information to non-financial staff and Council. Strong organizational and time management skills are essential, particularly during budget preparation and year-end reporting periods. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Council, municipal staff, government officials, contractors, community organizations, and members of the public is required. Working knowledge of municipal budgeting, forecasting, along with demonstrated ability to quickly learn and effectively use municipal financial and budgeting software are needed. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.

Qualifications include a post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or a related field. Completion of AMCTO’s Municipal Administration Program (MAP), Municipal Accounting and Finance Program (MAFP), and/or the CPA Canada Public Sector Accounting Certificate would be considered assets. Candidates should possess demonstrated accounting knowledge with a minimum of three years of relevant experience; municipal experience is considered an asset.

Working conditions include a general office environment with frequent movement between sitting and standing positions. The role is performed in an open office setting and is subject to interruptions from staff and the public, as well as frequent deadlines.

The salary range for this position is $79,625 to $87,796.80 based on a 35 hour work week, and includes a comprehensive benefit package. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.
