Accounting Clerk / Asset & Financial Support

The Town of Huntsville is seeking a Temporary Accounting Clerk / Asset & Financial Support position to provide short-term operational support to the Finance Department. This role supports transactional accounting, reconciliations, asset inventory, and financial data maintenance under the direction of permanent Finance staff.

Reporting to the Deputy Treasurer, the successful candidate will assist with a variety of accounting, asset management, and financial support functions including:

  • Assisting with journal entries and maintaining general ledger records
  • Performing bank, trust, and investment account reconciliations
  • Reconciling accounts between financial systems and subsidiary records
  • Supporting balancing of interfund and intercompany transactions
  • Updating and maintaining asset inventory records and capital asset tracking logs
  • Assisting with amortization schedules and asset management data maintenance
  • Preparing routine internal financial and asset-related reports
  • Completing data uploads, entry verification, and quality control checks
  • Providing backup support for Finance counter, email, and telephone inquiries
  • Assisting with general Finance administrative duties and special projects

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Experience with municipal accounting and asset management processes
  • Knowledge of basic accounting functions and reconciliations
  • Experience working with data-driven systems and inventory or asset management software
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with ICity financial software considered an asset
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative team environment

This temporary position provides operational and administrative support only. All work is completed under the supervision of the Deputy Treasurer.
