Pre-Meeting Highlights

General Committee Pre-Meeting Highlights – October 29, 2025

This month Committee will hear on a number of subjects, including a deputation from The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation, a deputation from Friends of Muskoka Watershed, and proposed changes to the Short-Term Rental Accommodation By-law.

The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation will present a request for support and partnership to develop a property into affordable housing, and a community hub aimed at addressing food insecurity, emergency shelter and social well-being.

The Friends of Muskoka Watershed will be sharing and requesting support for the Salty Muskoka Project which is aimed at reducing salt usage during the winter months.

Staff will be presenting proposed amendments to the Short-Term Rental Accommodation By-law, and these changes represent efforts to improve the supply of long-term rental units and affordable housing, create a more connected community, and provide more oversight of short-term rentals.  Changes include:

  • STRA owners must own the property for a year prior to renting it out on a short-term basis.
  • A license cap of 250 STRA units in Huntsville.
  • The number of non-compliance strikes permitted prior to revoking a license is increasing, but the Town is counting all strikes issues within a two-year period instead of one year.
