Notice of Intention to Designate a Property of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest Under the Provisions of Section 29 Part IV of the Cultural Heritage Act, R.S.O 1990 as Amended

The Council of the Corporation of the Town of Huntsville intends to designate the following property for reasons of cultural heritage value pursuant to the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter O.18, Part IV:

Madill Church
254 Old Muskoka Road
Huntsville, ON

Madill Church has design and physical value as a locally rare and representative example of a square timber log pioneer church. It has historical and associative value as it was built in 1872 on land donated by John Madill, one of the area’s original settlers, and each family in the congregation donated logs for its construction. The property has contextual value as it is adjacent to the Madill Cemetery which contains the graves of many Muskoka pioneers, including Captain George Hunt, the founder of Huntsville.

Any person wishing to file a notice of objection to the designation must file such notice of objection together with a statement of reasons in writing and all relevant facts, by 4:30 p.m. June 28, 2024:
