Town of Huntsville Kicks Off 2025 Capital Road Improvement Projects
Note: This page was updated on April 29, 2025, to include additional project details.
(Huntsville, ON) The Town of Huntsville is kicking off its 2025 road, sidewalk, and bridge capital projects, with most work scheduled for the spring and summer months. This year, Huntsville is investing in infrastructure improvements with a comprehensive construction program that was pre-approved as part of the 2025 budget process.
What Are Capital Projects? The Town conducts annual asset management planning, ensuring that municipal infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, is regularly reviewed and scheduled for reconstruction when it reaches the end of its useful life cycle. Various factors, including emergency weather events like flooding, can influence when an asset requires rehabilitation.
When an asset is due for replacement or major work, it is brought before Council as part of the budget review process. Capital projects typically involve road resurfacing and maintenance, complete road reconstruction (including road base, surface, curb and gutters, storm sewers, and catch basins), bridge repairs or upgrades, sidewalk improvements, streetlight installation, and large culvert replacements.

Capital Project Construction Timing:
Construction for Capital Projects typically begins in Huntsville after half-load restrictions are lifted. In the spring, staff focus on securing contractors through the procurement process and developing a construction schedule that addresses the immediate needs of the assets while minimizing the impact on residents, businesses, and visitors. 2025 construction will get underway after the half-load season and will continue through to the end of September.
