Stay Busy This Winter with Huntsville’s Recreation, Culture & Heritage Programming
(Huntsville, ON) The temperatures may be dropping, but your social calendar doesn’t need to hibernate this winter! Stay busy and discover the recreation, culture, and heritage programming available through the Town of Huntsville and Huntsville Public Library. Town registration for pre-registered programs opens on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. online or in-person with new schedules available for a variety of drop-in programs. Huntsville Public Library’s Kids, Tween, and Teen program registration opens on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. by phone or in-person. Registration for adult programming at the library is open.
Winter Program Highlights
The Algonquin Theatre has a variety of shows to get you in the holiday spirit with A Seussified Christmas Carol (Huntsville High School) on December 10, Tartan Terrors Celtic Christmas on December 12, and GRINCHED! A Holiday Panto (Huntsville Festival of the Arts) on December 20 and 21. Looking for a fun night out? The Rock Singers of Muskoka Shuffle the Decades show on December 13 will bring classic hits from the 50s, 70s, 90s, and 2010s to life.
Take a step back in time by visiting the Muskoka Museum at Muskoka Heritage Place (MHP); winter hours are Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The Museum is excited to add to its programming selections, reCOLLECTION, a relaxing monthly program designed for older adults who may be experiencing memory loss. Caregivers are welcome to tour the Pioneer Village by foot or snowshoe or connect with others during the program. Showshoeing in the Village is open to everyone during business hours (last entry 3 p.m.) from mid-December to March, weather permitting. We encourage you to bring your own snowshoes as our supply is limited.
Give the Gift of Recreation, Culture and Heritage this Christmas
Have you made your list and checked it twice? Check out the Town’s many gift ideas!
- Shopping for a theatre lover? Purchase tickets to a show at the Algonquin Theatre or a gift certificate and let them decide on the show. We also offer Seat Dedications for those looking to leave a lasting legacy.
- Give the gift of healthy living with Canada Summit Centre memberships, passes, or an arena Seat Dedication. Suitable for any age, passes are available for public swimming, skating or both.
- An Active Living Centre Drop-In Program pass is a great gift for the 55+ adult in your life, offering the opportunity to build healthy routines, discover new hobbies, and form lasting friendships.
- Wrap up a Muskoka Heritage Place membership, season pass, or adopt one of our artifacts for the history buff on your list. The gift shop also has one-of-a-kind gifts, some forged by our blacksmiths or created by hand by local artisans. It is open Tuesday to Saturday between 10a.m. and 4p.m. The gift shop is holding a year end sale until December 20 – almost everything is 10 to 50 per cent off (excluding items on consignment).
Holiday Programming
When school is out, camp is in this winter! The Town has a full complement of holiday programming for kids, including Holiday Day Camp, March Break Day Camp, and PA Day Camp (now including Catholic District School Board date), for kids four to 12 years old.
Looking for more ways to keep the kids busy? Register for one of our Holiday Crafts for families and teens or break out those skates and visit the Canada Summit Centre for our Holiday Skates. Discover one of our many youth programs from running, active kids, art, drama, science, and leadership for programming into the new year. With so much outdoor winter fun to be had, don’t forget our Centennial Pool and two arenas are open daily through the winter months.
It wouldn’t be a Huntsville holiday without the Portage Flyer Christmas train. Back on Saturday, December 20, it offers a magical experience for the whole family. The locomotive and coaches are lit up for the season, and we look forward to welcoming you on board with a cup of hot chocolate and cookies as the train brings you to visit Santa at Purser’s Cabin. A sensory-friendly train is offered at 4:30 p.m., in partnership with Autism Ontario.
Warm up at the Library
When the weather outside is frightful, visit the Huntsville Public Library for programming for kids, teens and adults! Start a new campaign with the Huntsville Public Library’s monthly Dungeons & Dragons Club starting this January and running until June. On March 14, meet your favourite heroes and princesses with Once Upon a Hero – an immersive experience in partnership with the Huntsville Theatre Company. For those new to the area, plan to drop in to Welcome Wednesdays to connect to a range of services and resources including schools, employment, recreation programs, housing and more. Make tax season a little less stressful with the library’s Community Income Tax Clinics throughout March and April.
