Port Sydney Beach Shoreline Project Now Complete

(Huntsville, ON) In collaboration with Mary Lake Association (MLA), the Town of Huntsville recently completed a project to mitigate future erosion of the shoreline in the parking lot at Port Sydney Beach. River rock was laid down to minimize erosion, and boulders were installed to ensure the river rock remained intact and protected. This work was done in partnership with MLA, who donated the materials, and the work was conducted by Town staff using Town equipment.

This project was approved by General Committee in March of this year, and was a result of a deputation from MLA and Muskoka Watershed Council. The presentation demonstrated a clear need to protect the shoreline from further erosion, particularly due to vehicles parking in the water and causing significant damage. Vegetation will be planted in the spring to further protect the shoreline.

This project is thanks to continual dialogue and a productive working relationship between MLA and the Town of Huntsville. It will help ensure that much of the parking lot remains usable for the future, while also providing better stewardship of the shoreline.
