Accounting and Revenue Clerk

The Accounting and Revenue Clerk is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and customer service support, with a primary focus on the administration and collection of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT). This role oversees MAT compliance to ensure licensing and timely remittances, coordinates outstanding balances that may require addition to the tax roll, and exercises judgment in issuing Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) when required. The Clerk will also independently attend appeals and enforcement hearings, presenting supporting documentation on behalf of the Town. In addition, this position serves as a back-up to the Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk by preparing and scheduling payment runs throughout the year. The role also includes providing counter, telephone, and email support for property tax inquiries, offering solutions where possible, and serving as back-up to the general Customer Service Representative when required.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in an enforcement setting. Attention to detail, accuracy, and political acuity are essential. Previous municipal accounting, accounts payable/receivable, property taxation, and customer service experience are assets. The successful applicant must also be proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, and able to adapt to other financial software applications used by the Town.
The salary range for this position is $55,309.80 to $60,970.00 based on a 35-hour work week and includes a comprehensive benefit plan.
