Communications Specialist

We are looking for the following contract position to cover a leave for up to 18 months in our Marketing and Communications Department.

Communications Specialist

Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Communications, the Communications Specialist will develop strategic communications for the corporation (Town of Huntsville, Muskoka Heritage Place and the Algonquin Theatre) as well as develop and implement the corporate Communication Plan. This includes development of media releases, speeches, key messages, content strategies, website content and marketing material. The Communications Specialist demonstrates excellence in project management and is a subject matter expert with an interest in new and emerging corporate communication tools, techniques, and strategies.

In collaboration with the Manager of Marketing and Communications, you will provide advice and guidance for critical communications to staff, the Senior Leadership Team and Council, and act as a media liaison for the Town and provide media relations support. The Communications Specialist is responsible for managing Town community engagement projects as well as social media channels in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree or 3-year community college diploma in public relations, communications, marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three (3) years previous related experience including working with media and public relations with a demonstrated ability to develop communication products in print, web-based and multi-media.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal and consultative skills.
  • Knowledge of Council and municipal government processes is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of print, graphic design (Adobe InDesign and Photoshop), social media and other web-related mediums.
  • Well developed Media Relations skills are an asset
  • Enjoys a fast-paced environment and work with an exceptional team dedicated to serving the community
  • A valid Class G driver’s licence is also required.

The salary range for this position is $75,238.80 – $82,937 based on a 35-hour work week. Ability to work in an office full time, with a flexible schedule.
