General Committee Post-Meeting Highlights - September 24, 2025

This month Committee heard on a number of subjects, including electrification of the Town’s fleet, the speed limit on South Waseosa Lake Road, and the lights at Diamond F at McCulley Robertson Recreation Park.  

Transitioning from petroleum-powered to electric vehicles (EV) is an important component of Huntsville’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050. Staff are recommending to begin the process of fleet electrification starting with replacing three end-of-life gas vehicles with EV alternatives. 

  • OUTCOME: Committee approved the recommended direction. 

General Committee received a petition from residents to reduce the speed limit of South Waseosa Lake Road from 60 km/h to 50 km/h.  

  • OUTCOME: Committee deferred the motion and directs staff to report back on South Waseosa Lake Road traffic counts. 

General Committee will discuss the lighting at Diamond F of McCulley Robertson Recreation Park. 

  • OUTCOME: Committee approved a motion directing staff to conduct a photometric study at this location to determine if any lighting hazards exist at a cost not to exceed $2,500 and to be funded through reserves.    

New Business arising out of deputations: 

  • OUTCOME: Committee directed staff to report back on the possibility of livestreaming for sporting events in both the Don Lough and Jack Bionda arenas.
