General Committee Post-Meeting Highlights – October 29, 2025

This month Committee heard on a number of subjects, including a deputation from The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation, a deputation from Friends of Muskoka Watershed, and proposed changes to the Short-Term Rental Accommodation By-law.

The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation will present a request for support and partnership to develop a property into affordable housing, and a community hub aimed at addressing food insecurity, emergency shelter and social well-being.

  • OUTCOME: General Committee has provided support, in principle, for the Table Soup Kitchen Foundation’s request, and will advocate on their behalf with different levels of government under which their proposal falls.

The Friends of Muskoka Watershed will be sharing and requesting support for the Salty Muskoka Project which is aimed at reducing salt usage during the winter months.

  • OUTCOME: Staff have been directed to review the Salty Muskoka Projects’ presentation and report back to General Committee with a Huntsville-specific motion regarding road salt usage and the financial request.

Staff will be presenting proposed amendments to the Short-Term Rental Accommodation By-law, and these changes represent efforts to provide more oversight of short-term rentals.

  • OUTCOME: General Committee approved a proposed amendment to the STRA By-law, developed in consultation with stakeholders, which prioritizes the renewal of existing licensed STRAs (who have submitted a complete application) prior to new applications. New STRA applications are on a first come, first served basis.
