August 20 media release update: While the Diggin’ Downtown project has experienced setbacks due to aging service connections and continuous heavy rainfall (read the July 26 release), project partners have established a new construction schedule and added an additional construction crew on-site to minimize delays. Read the new schedule on the Construction Details and Detours Page

What you need to know

  • The Diggin’ Downtown project will consist of a total of 5 construction stages with the first 4 stages of construction
  • Construction began March 2021. See all construction stages, road closures and detours
  • The project team anticipates the Diggin’ Downtown project is approximately 4 to 6 weeks behind schedule. Understanding and recognizing the impacts that these delays bring, the Town of Huntsville and District of Muskoka are working closely with Dufferin Construction crews to expedite progress.
  • During construction downtown, all businesses are open, following COVID-19 protocols
  • Sidewalks remain open and provide accessible entry to businesses downtown throughout the construction project
  • Read through questions and answers on the FAQ page

Waste collection in the construction zone

During construction all waste and recycling services will be maintained per your regular collection day schedule. Place your waste at your regular location and the contractor will work directly with the waste removal company to ensure all garbage is removed.

Try the District's new online collection calendar to search by your address to confirm your next collection day.

Deliveries in the construction zone

We will work closely with businesses in the construction area to ensure deliveries are accommodated.

  • Deliveries will be coordinated between the contractor, the BIA and our downtown businesses. We look forward to providing an onsite Public Relations Representative as a resource for businesses, so deliveries can be arranged confidently in advance.
  • Contact details will be updated in the coming weeks for businesses to plan deliveries.

Parking for employees

The Town of Huntsville and Downtown Huntsville BIA are encouraging all downtown employees to park on side streets and public lots outside of the downtown core. Parking will be at premium during construction and we all want to ensure that customers and visitors have access to parking spaces.

Parking lots have been secured to support staff parking and they are in the following locations:

  • Huntsville Curling Club
  • Huntsville Legion
  • Canada Summit Centre

The BIA will also be working on an Employee Incentive Program to encourage staff to park further from the Downtown Core. More information about this program will be updated in the coming weeks.
