In anticipation of entering Stage One of Ontario’s Roadmap to Reopen, the Town of Huntsville will be opening registration for a few outdoor fitness classes, outdoor swimming lessons as well as summer day camp. 

The Canada Summit Centre remains closed at this time. Contact-free services are available online or by phone or email.

Youth Programs and Day Camp

Summer Day Camp registration begins June 16, 2021 at 8:30am.

Day camp details

Things to know for your campers in 2021:

Health and safety for campers, staff and parents
Health and Safety for Campers, Staff and Parents include the following:
  • Face Masks will be required for all.
  • Modified programming such as activities and games have been adapted to include physical distancing measures.
  • Small camp numbers which is based on the guidance provided by the ministry of health.
  • Daily COVID screening which will be an electronic form to be filled out each day prior to camp.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting procedures have been enhanced. Program spaces and materials will be sanitized regularly.
  • Where possible, campers will be given their own set of supplies for the duration of the camp week.
  • No transportation or day trips will be occurring. All programming will take place at the Canada Summit Centre, with a majority of programming occurring outdoors
Screening procedures
Screening procedures include the following:
  • All campers, staff and parents/guardians will be required to complete a Health Screening each day prior to attending camp or camp locations.
  • Electronic Link to complete this screening will be provided to parents/guardians in the email prior to camp starting.
  • One parent/guardian can accompany their camper to the camp sign-in/ and pick up location and must supervise camper until drop off has been completed.
  • Campers may not attend camp each day unless they pass all screening questions on the Health Screening.
  • The Town of Huntsville Youth Day Camps will follow the guidance from Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit in regards to campers or staff who do not meet all screening questions.
Communication prior to camp
Communication prior to camp will include:
  • On the Thursday prior to camp, you will receive an email from Camp Staff with all the information needed to assist you in getting ready for camp.
  • To ensure you do not miss any information, please ensure your email is up-to-date.
Camp cohorting
Camp cohorting details include:
  • Camps have limited spaces based on the guidance given by Ministry of Health of Ontario.
  • Camp groups is based on the guidance given by the Ministry of Health based on size of location.
  • Camps will be taking place throughout the Canada Summit Centre with a majority of programming occurring outdoors
Camp programming
Camp programming:
  • The Town of Huntsville Camp Team has been hard at work building camp programs that will ensure your children have a fun and safe summer.
  • Games and Activities have been adapted to include physical distancing measures.
  • Where possible, campers will be given their own set of supplies for the duration of the camp week.
Behaviour expectations
Behavior expectations include:
  • Disruptive or uncooperative behaviour spoils camp for everyone. Each parent and camper must sign a behaviour expectation form. Campers who do not live up to expectations may be asked to leave camp permanently.
  • When considering a recreation experience please consider the individuals needs, and that the recreation integrated setting may not be suitable for all persons with disabilities. Health and Safety of participants and staff is paramount, which could result in participants being denied access to the program.
  • Please note that the Town of Huntsville does not offer 1:1 support for youth programs or campers. Children who require an Educational Assistant at school or 1:1 support for success, are asked to provide their own caregiver at youth programs/camp. Please contact our Community Services Recreation staff for further information, to communicate your child’s needs and/or how to bring a caregiver for your child.
Procedures at camp

Procedures at camp include:

  • Campers will be asked to bring and wear their own face coverings while attending camp. Face covering must fully cover the camper’s mouth and nose. Staff will also be wearing face coverings
  • It is recommended campers bring 3 masks to camp each day and will be reminded to change masks if they become soiled or soaked.
  • All campers and staff will wash/sanitize hands throughout when entering the camp location and regularly throughout the day.
  • Campers and staff will remain in their camp cohort (Example, Wilderness Adventurers or Junior Explorers) and will not mix with other participants or staff for the duration of the camp week.
  • Campers and staff will follow physical distancing guidelines (at least two metres) in program spaces and all activities will promote physical distancing where possible.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting procedures have been enhanced. Program spaces and materials will be sanitized regularly.
  • All campers, staff and parents/guardians will adhere to directional facility flow while entering or exiting camp locations.
