(Huntsville, ON) It’s beginning to look a lot like Winter, just in time for The Town of Huntsville’s launch of its winter edition of the digital Art, Culture & Recreation Guide, outlining all of the great winter activities we have planned in Huntsville. Town of Huntsville program registration opens on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. and can be done online or in-person. Huntsville Public Library program registration opens on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. and can be done by phone or in-person. You can also drop-in to many programs offered throughout the season.
Winter Program Highlights:
As always, there is a full line-up of shows at the Algonquin Theatre this winter including the Banff Mountain Film Festival from January 21-23, Huntsville’s Got Talent (presented by Community Living Huntsville) on February 1, and Matilda: The Musical (presented by Huntsville High School) February 12-16. The Algonquin Theatre Movie Nights continue on the third Tuesday of each month starting with Die Hard on December 17. Join the never-ending debate about whether this Bruce Willis classic is a Christmas movie or not.
Did you know? The Muskoka Museum is open year-round; winter hours are Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. (check the Guide for holiday hours). The Museum is home to a permanent exhibit on local history and the temporary exhibit Herstory. It also hosts a number of Family Crafts and programs. New this year – snowshoe back in time at the Muskoka Heritage Place! Showshoeing in the Village will take place January to March, Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. There will be free showshoeing and hot chocolate during Heritage Week from February 17-22. We encourage you to bring your own snowshoes as our supply is limited.

The MHP gift shop is open and holding a year end sale until December 20 – almost everything is 10-50 per cent off (excluding items on consignment).
When the weather outside is frightful, visit the Huntsville Public Library – with programs such as Baby/Toddler Storytime and Pre-School Storytime on Thursdays from January 9 to March 6 from 10-10:30 a.m. and 11-11:30 a.m., respectively; Lego Builders Club on various dates and times in January and February; and Homeschool STEAM Club on the first Tuesday of the month January to March from 2-3 p.m.
When school is out, camp is in this winter! The Town has a full complement of holiday programming for kids, including Holiday Day Camp, March Break Day Camp, and PA Day Camp (now including Catholic District School Board date), for kids 4-12 years old. New this year is the March Break History Hunters Day Camp at Muskoka Heritage Place for ages 6-12.
There are so many programs on this winter at the Canada Summit Centre, including the always popular Holiday Skate & Shinny. A big thank you to our current free skate sponsors - there are still sponsorship opportunities available for those looking to give the gift of family fun this holiday season! New this winter for kids ages 5-9, our Science Club on Wednesdays from 4-5 p.m. for four weeks starting February 26. You asked, we listened –we are piloting a Multi-Fitness Discount for select adult dryland fitness programs; register for one full-session and get a discount on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th class registration fees.
With so much outdoor winter fun to be had, don’t forget our Centennial Pool and two arenas are open daily through the winter months. Schedules can be found in the Guide and online at huntsville.ca. In preparation for summer jobs on the beach, WSIB-approved Standard First Aid courses are being offered in February and March – now is the time to get certified!
