This month, General Committee heard various issues including 2024 Roads Needs Study, Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, Affordable Recreation Policy Update, Town Logo Refresh.
Here’s what happened:
- General Committee received an invited presentation from engineering consultant Burnside & Associates with the results of the 2024 Town of Huntsville Roads Needs Study. For the full report, please see the Agenda on Huntsville.ca. Staff will report back on the findings of the Roads Needs Study at an upcoming General Committee meeting.
- General Committee will receive a report regarding a request from the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs District 7 ("OFSC") that the Municipality enter into a Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") with respect to the operation of snowmobile trails within the Town of Huntsville and located on Town properties.
- OUTCOME: General Committee recommended that the Director of Operations be authorized to finalize the Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") with the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs District 7 ("OFSC") for the use of the Town properties by the OFSC.
- General Committee will receive a report from staff regarding an Affordable Recreation Policy Update. Staff will provide an overview of the Town of Huntsville's current Affordable Access to Recreation Policy for residents living in low-income and propose amendments to the Policy to expand program offerings and make it more accessible to residents.
- OUTCOME: General Committee voted to recommend changes to the Affordable Recreation Policy as outlined in the staff report in order to make recreation programs more accessible for low-income families and individuals in our community, which included 100% (instead of 50%) off two (2) children/youth and adult programs for those who meet the low-income threshold. The policy has also been extended to include programming at Muskoka Heritage Place and the Algonquin Theatre. See table below with overview of program changes. Please see the staff report from the Agenda on Huntsville.ca for more detail.
- General Committee received a presentation by staff on Town Logo Refresh, identifying some minor changes to the Town’s corporate logo in order to: improve functionality and simplify graphic elements in the logo; incorporate the word “Muskoka” into the logo instead of having it below the logo (69% of surveyed residents agreed it is important); address the community’s dislikes by modernizing the logo while maintaining its integrity and timeless feel. Next steps for the Town’s Marketing and Communications department will be to finalize the Town of Huntsville’s Brand Standard Guidelines (that incorporate the refreshed logo) and phase-in the refreshed logo and brand elements over time, replacing branded assets only as needed (truck stickers, print material, uniforms etc.). To view the full presentation with images please see the Agenda on Huntsville.ca. See below for image of refreshed Town logo.
