To honour the passing of the Honourable Murray Sinclair, flags at the Huntsville Civic Centre and the Canada Summit Centre will be lowered today to half-mast in recognition of his lifelong dedication to justice, truth, and reconciliation for Indigenous Peoples. An Anishinaabe and member of the Peguis First Nation, Mr. Sinclair dedicated his life to repairing and reshaping Canada’s relationship with Indigenous Peoples. Among his many accomplishments, he will be remembered for his service as the Chief Commissioner of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), where he led efforts to address the lasting and painful impact of the residential school system on Indigenous communities.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and to the Indigenous Peoples and communities across Canada.
Flags at Town facilities will remain lowered until Sunday, November 10, 2024.
