This position will lead special projects relevant to programming, support the Collections Coordinator with in-house and travelling exhibitions, and seek out grant opportunities as necessary to fund these projects.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

The ideal candidate will possess or be pursuing a diploma in Arts Administration, Cultural Management/Planning, Event Management, Museum Studies, Education, Cultural Studies, or a related field. A minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in cultural and/or heritage programming, community development, event planning, administration, leadership, and service delivery. Strong communication, facilitation, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential, as is a general knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, and legislation. A valid Class “G” driver’s is necessary. Experience with facility booking software programs, such as PerfectMind, and certifications in First Aid, CPR, Smart Serve and Food Handlers are considered assets.

Summer Student - Operations & Engineering

The Town of Huntsville has an opening for a Summer Student - Operations and Engineering. We are seeking an Engineering student to assist with various aspects of the Roads/Infrastructure capital projects, roads maintenance operations, and development activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem solving while working on various tasks related to road and infrastructure projects.

This role reports directly to our Engineering Technicians. The successful candidate will be enrolled in a  post-secondary school, have some knowledge of civil engineering, and have a Class G drivers licence. Lead Hand, Facilities - Full time position (evenings and weekends)

We are looking to fill the role of Lead Hand Facilities to complement our Community Services Division. Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager the Lead Hand Facilities will oversee the day-to-day cleaning, disinfection, minor maintenance and general upkeep of the Canada Summit Centre, Huntsville Civic Centre, Community Halls, and other select municipal buildings as deemed necessary. This will include the performance of the actual cleaning and disinfection, as well as assigning and supervising facility staff in the performance of these tasks and meeting with contractors.

Your success in this role is dependent on your ability to work effectively under limited supervision and exercise sound independent action and judgment with staff, customer groups, contractors and the public. You will have working knowledge of custodial services within a recreational facility including the ability to operate the associated equipment with the knowledge of materials, principles, practices, methods, and procedures used in custodial and maintenance services. TSSA Refrigeration Operator Class B and completion of certified pool operator’s course would be an asset. Knowledge of general pool operations and its chemistry with 1-3 years of experience in a municipally managed arena/recreation center preferred. Additional background in HVAC operations and building automation systems an asset.

Applicants should have a secondary school diploma and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a custodial or maintenance role, preferably within a municipal facility with arena and pool operations. Preference will be given to candidates with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience, including scheduling, task assignment, leading teams of 10 or more, performance management, and developing standard operating procedures. Strong proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office is essential. This position also requires a valid Class G Driver’s License and the ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Police Background Check.

The hourly rate range for the position is $38.27 to $42.19 based on a 40-hour per week shift schedule that will include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The schedule will be 8 hours per day, the hours of work will vary and will be primarily evening shifts from 1:30pm to 10pm including working Saturday and Sunday. Days off will be during the weekdays.  A comprehensive benefits package is also included.

Prescribed programs have been created with a focus on recreation, traditional camp activities, arts and crafts, sports and games. Duties include; planning, participating and supervising children and children’s activities, to provide for the necessary care for each child, providing suggestions for program enhancement, to obtain and develop learning materials/resources, completion of time sheets and any training and attendance at staff meetings.  

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children (ages 4 -12) and will understand a variety of sports, cooperative games, arts/crafts and summer camp fun.

Relevant Qualifications include:

  • Standard First Aid and CPR. 
  • High Five – PHCD is an asset. 
  • NLS certification is also an asset.

Historical Narrator - Seasonal position

The Town of Huntsville is a scenic tourist-based community located in Muskoka cottage country.  Huntsville, with a population approaching 20,000, is the largest community in the District of Muskoka and is a vibrant and dynamic community in which to live, work and play.

The Town of Huntsville is looking for enthusiastic, dedicated, and creative individuals to work at our Muskoka Museum, Pioneer Village, and Steam Museum for the 2024 season – May to October! We’re also looking for individuals for the summer months of July and August! Reporting directly to the Manager, Muskoka Heritage Place, the Narrator’s main responsibility is to relay historical information to visitors in a factual, authentic, educational, and entertaining manner. This information may be relayed by recital, by re-enacting historical activities by way of demonstration and by physically involving the visitor by “hands-on” activity.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of local history and be able to learn the main site storylines as provided by the Muskoka Heritage Place Narrator’s manual. You must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of personality types.

The hourly rate for this position is $18.20. Work schedules may vary to accommodate operational needs, which may require you to work weekend and statutory holiday shifts.

Communications Coordinator

Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Communication, the Communications Coordinator will develop strategic communications for the corporation (Town of Huntsville, Muskoka Heritage Place and the Algonquin Theatre) as well as develop and implement the corporate Communication Plan. This includes development of media releases, speeches, key messages, content strategies, website content and marketing material. The Communication Coordinator demonstrates excellence in project management and is a subject matter expert with an interest in new and emerging corporate communication tools, techniques, and strategies.

In collaboration with the Manager of Marketing and Communication, you will provide advice and guidance for critical communications to staff, the Senior Leadership Team and Council, and act as a media liaison for the Town and provide media relations support.

The Communication Coordinator is responsible for managing Town community engagement projects as well as social media channels in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree or 3-year community college diploma in public relations, communications, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three (3) years previous related experience including working with media and public relations with a demonstrated ability to develop communication products in print, web-based and multi-media.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal and consultative skills.
  • Knowledge of Council and municipal government processes is an asset.
  • Well developed Media Relations skills is an asset
  • Enjoys a fast-paced environment and working with an exceptional team dedicated to serving the community
  • A valid Class G driver’s licence is also required.
