Facility Operator - Full time position

Reporting to the Lead Hand and Facility Manager, the Facility Operator is responsible for the proper cleanliness, maintenance and preventative services at the Canada Summit Centre, Huntsville Civic Centre, Community Halls and other select municipal building as deemed necessary including pool and arena(x2) facilities which includes the pool plant and refrigeration.

Completion of secondary school with 1-3 years of experience in a municipally managed arena/recreation center. The completion of the TSSA Refrigeration Operator Class B, Certified Pool Operator or the following courses would be considered an asset: Basic Refrigeration, Advance Refrigeration, Ice Making and Painting, Ice Maintenance and Operations and Recreation Facility Environmental Services HVAC. General knowledge of arena/pool operations and experience in the operation of an Olympia ice resurfacer. Additional background in HVAC operations and building automation systems is an asset. A valid Class G Driver’s License is also required

The hourly rate range for a certified Class B operator is $28.91 to $31.87 and for a non-certified operator is $26.78 to $29.52 based on a 40-hour per week shift schedule that could include days, evenings, weekends and holidays. A comprehensive benefits package is also included.

Facilities Custodian - Part time position

This position requires predominantly walking and standing. Normal work time is usually spent indoors with outdoor periods as required for tasks such as snow removal. Occasional periods of high levels of physical exertion are required. This includes lifting, walking, bending and standing.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a Custodial service industry, as well as mechanical aptitude. An ability to interact well with the public and staff is essential by providing superior customer service to a diverse client base in a friendly and knowledgeable manner.

The hourly rate is $16.33. Work hours will vary to accommodate operational needs, and will require the ability to work daytimes, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

Civil Engineering Technician - Full time position

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the Civil Engineering Technician will assist in the design, review, and development of all municipal projects in the municipality. Including land development, public works and stormwater, site inspection, preparation of construction cost estimates, tender documents and contracts as well as provide technical review of all planning applications on behalf of the municipality. In addition, you will assist in the managing of project budgets, inspecting project sites and monitoring progress of work, ensure compliance with government and safety regulations and provide feedback to management regarding technical and structural aspects of projects. You will use your strong technical skills to work collaboratively and effectively with ratepayers, contractors, and staff of multiple disciplines.

Desirable Training and Experience

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized college or equivalent
  • Three to five years experience in municipal engineering and development
  • Sound understanding of engineering standards, theories, and principles
  • Knowledge of theory, principles, practices and techniques of public works, traffic engineering, public works maintenance functions
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills and the capability to explain and communicate effectively to non-engineering team members
  • Ability to plan, direct and integrate broad, comprehensive capital programs and activities

The salary range for this position is $81, 827.20 to $90,188.80 (based on a 40-hour work week) including an attractive benefit package.

Must possess excellent customer service skills and be willing to perform various duties in a range of weather conditions and must have a valid Class G driver’s licence.

The salary for this position is $33,966.40 based on a 40-hour work week and includes a comprehensive benefit package. Hours of work will include nights, weekends and holidays.

Yard and Fleet Administrator - Temporary position

The Town of Huntsville is currently looking to hire a temporary Yard and Fleet Administrator to cover for a medical leave.

The Yard and Fleet Administrator will take the lead role in the coordination and organizing of the Madill Yard garage and related sites as well as fleet management. This position is responsible for the supervision of Mechanics and for the efficient and effective daily operation of the yard. The scope of fleet management will include tendering, maintenance of vehicles, and disposal of unused equipment as well as ordering and controlling vehicle and equipment parts. Maintains stock room ensuring stock is ordered and arranges parts and supplies for pick-up/delivery. Orders and monitors material and supplies such as signs, culverts, catch basins, construction material for the yard. Reviews monthly budget reports to ensure those areas are within budget parameters.

Ideally, the successful candidate would possess a valid Ontario Truck and Coach Service Technician Certificate and a valid Automotive Service Technician Certificate with a valid DZ driver’s licence. Experience and knowledge in overseeing a mechanical repair shop as well as management of fleet plans including repair and replacement is an asset. Must have excellent analytical, interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills and an excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications.

The hourly range for this position is $36.43 to $40.16 and is based on a 40 hour work week.

The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of heavy equipment operation and possess a valid DZ License. Loader, backhoe and grader experience would be an asset. Experience driving a snow plow would be a distinct advantage. This position will require the successful candidate to work both independently and as an integral part of a team. Furthermore, participation in all aspects of operations including physical labour (digging, lifting, excavating etc.) will be expected.

The Town of Huntsville Roads Department is a member of the Local Union 636 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. All Public Works employees are on call on a rotating basis, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week between November 1st and April 15th for road winter maintenance activities. During the summer months, hours of operation are 7:00 am to 5:00 pm (10 hour shifts), Monday to Thursday.

The hourly range for this position is $26.86 to $28.57 which also includes a comprehensive benefit package.

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary diploma or degree in Planning or directly related field. A working knowledge of the Planning Act, Official Plan and Zoning By-law, other planning related legislation and related experience is desired. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, practical experience and advanced knowledge of MS Office applications such as Excel and Word and GIS applications are required. A valid G license and access to transportation is also required.

Mechanic - Full Time Position

We are looking for a Mechanic to complement our Operations and Protective Services Division.

Reporting to the Yard/Fleet Administrator the Mechanic is responsible for conducting mechanical maintenance and repairs on Town owned vehicles and equipment including welding and hydraulic repairs, and for overseeing and scheduling vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs. This position will require the successful candidate to work both independently and as an integral part of a team making appropriate decisions based on general guidance. Furthermore, participation in all aspects of operations including physical labour will be expected.

The candidate will have successful completion of a Secondary School Grade 12 diploma or equivalent. Possession of a valid Ontario Truck and Coach Service Technician Certificate (310T) and Automotive Service Technician Certificate (310S) is mandatory with a minimum of four (4) years of related experience including experience with diesel powered equipment.

A sound knowledge of vehicle and truck maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, basic welding and fabrication procedures, and the operation of a mechanic’s shop is expected. Small engine experience would also be an asset.

The ability to operate Town owned equipment for testing purposes is required. Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” driver’s license is mandatory. Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Class “D-Z” or Class “A-Z” driver’s license is preferred.

This position is a member of the Local Union 636 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

The starting hourly rate for this position is $30.84 and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
