Planner (Leave of Absence Vacancy)

The Development Services Department is seeking to fill a leave of absence as a Planner.

Reporting to the Manager of Planning, this position will perform a wide range of municipal planning activities. As Planner you will review and evaluate municipal planning applications. This involves interpretation of official plan policies, zoning and related by-laws, problem identification and resolution relating to planning agencies comments, public input and Committee queries and negotiation with the client, the public, other agencies and departments requiring oral and written competency at all times. You will also prepare recommendations for approval and makes presentations to the Planning Committee and Committee of Adjustment. This will involve research, analysis, mediation, site inspection and report preparation.

Ideally the successful candidate will possess a University Degree in Planning with an emphasis on urban design, landscape architecture or diploma as a Certified Planning Technician along with three years increasingly responsible municipal planning experience. In addition, the successful candidate must also demonstrate highly developed inter-personal skills, the ability to build relationships, superior writing and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines. A strong focus on finding innovative solutions to issues that may arise is an asset.

The hourly range for this position is $38.16 to $42.06 based on a 35-hour work week.
