Historical Narrator - Short term position

The Town of Huntsville is a scenic tourist-based community located in Muskoka cottage country.  Huntsville, with a population approaching 20,000, is the largest community in the District of Muskoka and is a vibrant and dynamic community in which to live, work and play.

The Town of Huntsville is looking for enthusiastic, dedicated, and creative individuals to finish off the 2024 season which is over October 12, 2024. Successful candidates may have an opportunity to return for the 2025 season which runs from May to October! Reporting directly to the Manager, Muskoka Heritage Place, the Narrator’s main responsibility is to relay historical information to visitors in a factual, authentic, educational, and entertaining manner. This information may be relayed by recital, by re-enacting historical activities by way of demonstration and by physically involving the visitor by “hands-on” activity.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of local history and be able to learn the main site storylines as provided by the Muskoka Heritage Place Narrator’s manual. You must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of personality types.

The hourly rate for this position is $17.83. Work schedules may vary to accommodate operational needs, which may require you to work weekend and statutory holiday shifts.

Front of House Coordinator

If you are as enthusiastic and passionate about theatre as we are you absolutely need to apply. To start things off here is a description of the position and what we are looking for:

  • We are seeking to fill the Front of House Coordinator position.
  • Reporting directly to the Manager of the Algonquin Theatre, the Front of House Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the smooth, efficient and professional operations of all fronts of house theatre operations. The Front of House Coordinator will ensure that all customers, clients, producers, entertainers, etc. have an exceptional experience through the delivery of all show services including but not limited to pre-show set-ups, food and beverage services, volunteer management, other services as identified and post-show duties.
  • Most importantly you love dealing with the public and are genuinely customer service focused. You will have an applied diploma in hospitality/theatre or related field, High School Diploma with experience could also be considered with strong analytical skills as well as an ability to make decisions independently.  Experience in food, beverage and cash handling is an asset. In addition to this, you must possess excellent analytical, interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills and be proficient in personal computer systems. 

The hourly rate range for this position is $27.85 to $30.70 and working hours will vary dependent on shift and would include evenings and weekends.

Front of House Coordinator - Algonquin Theatre Competition

Seasonal Operator(s)

This contract position starts this fall and runs to approximately May 17, 2025, for the Winter season. The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of heavy equipment operation and posses a minimum of a valid DZ licence. This position will require the successful candidate to work independently and make appropriate decisions and also as part of a team under general guidance of the Roads Foreman or his designate. During the winter season this position will rotate from morning to afternoon shift and will be a 40 hour per week shift.  This position is also required to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days every other week during the entire length of the winter season.

The current hourly rate for this position is $28.75.

Algonquin Theatre Technical Assistant - Part time position

If you are as enthusiastic and passionate about theatre as we are, you absolutely need to apply. To start things off here is a description of the position and what we are looking for:

  • Recognizing the importance and understanding to provide exceptional across the counter service to fulfill customer needs and expectations, the Technical Assistant will be responsibility for technical requirements for Town of Huntsville facilities, including but not limited to: the Theatre, meeting and function spaces; all aspects of service delivery for lighting, sound; coordinating maintenance, as assigned by the Theatre Manager. Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the Town and facilities and supports the Theatre Manager and the Technical Director as assigned.
  • Ideally, the successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a theatre setting with demonstrated escalating responsibilities and ability to supervise staff/volunteers. Must possess excellent analytical, interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills and be proficient in personal computer systems. Familiarity with ETC ION Xe console or ETC Eos software is an asset. Fall Arrest, Aerial Lift and First Aid Certificates are also assets.

The hourly rate range for this position is $19.65 to $21.67. Working hours will vary dependent on the shift, which will include evenings and weekends.
