The Library is excited to begin recruiting for a Canada Summer Jobs Grant Community Engagement Assistant position to work 35 hours per week delivering outreach and programs as well as supporting central service delivery and digitization of local history and genealogy collections.

Community Engagement Assistant - Huntsville Public Library

Under the direction of the Community Engagement Coordinator, the Community Engagement Assistant will assist in digitization of collections in the Huntsville Public Library Muskoka Room, participate in program outreach opportunities, and assist users of all ages at the Central Service Desk.

This is an excellent employment opportunity. Applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,

Deputy Treasurer - closes Fri May 24 at 12noon

Located in Ontario’s cottage country, the Town of Huntsville is the largest community in the District Municipality of Muskoka and in proximity to the west side of Algonquin Park. Within this exciting setting, the Town of Huntsville has a vibrant downtown and offers many cultural and outdoor recreational opportunities.

We are looking for the following position to complement our Finance Department:

Deputy Treasurer

Reporting to the Manager of Finance/Treasurer, the Deputy Treasurer will play a lead role in the administration of municipal accounting activities to ensure accounting procedures are within generally accepted accounting practices and in accordance with the statutory requirements set under applicable legislation and regulations and will directly supervise the Assistant Deputy Treasurer and Accounts Receivable/Payable Clerk. The Deputy Treasurer will also be directly involved in the development and monitoring of the annual operating and capital budgets, including analyzing and reporting on the performance of the annual budget, ensuring policies are adhered to and preparing quarterly budget variance reports as well as the annual report. This position will be the primary contact for staff and Council support with respect to budget software systems as well as acting as backup software administrator. In addition, the Deputy Treasurer will coordinate the Towns Asset Management Plan and work collaboratively with staff on the annual update of information as well as the use of the capital asset software, including staff training.

The successful candidate must possess a post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience with three (3) to five (5) years’ experience managing in a municipal finance capacity. Complimenting your educational background a CPA designation is mandatory. The completion of AMCTO’s Municipal Administration Program (MAP) and Municipal Accounting Finance Program (MAFP) is an asset.

The successful candidate will also have strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, problem-solving, reading, oral and written communication, planning, time management and organizational skills including presentation skills. You will also have an ability to embrace change, influence a positive culture, be resourceful and have an intuitive ability to seek new ideas to maximize effectiveness within the Finance Department. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is also mandatory.

The salary range for this position is $80,571.40 to $88,834.20 (based on a 35 hour work week) and includes a comprehensive benefit package.

Parking Ambassador (Seasonal Position) - closes Fri May 24, 2019 at 12noon

The Town of Huntsville is hiring a Parking Ambassador to provide consistent, professional and customer-oriented parking services on-street in downtown Huntsville.

Reporting through the Chief By-law Enforcement Officer, this position will be responsible for monitoring vehicles and enforcing Town parking by-laws while communicating with and educating the public concerning Town parking.

In addition to monitoring parking, the Parking Ambassador will provide directions, and provide more “eyes and ears” on the street. They will be knowledgeable of Huntsville’s businesses and landmarks, town programs and services and will help connect residents and visitors with destinations and information.

Parking Ambassadors are strong communicators, approachable, skilled at providing information and have a demonstrated history of working with the public. Ideally, the successful candidate will currently be enrolled in police foundations or hospitality/tourism or equivalent. Must possess excellent customer service, be willing to perform various duties in a range of weather conditions and must have a valid Class G driver’s licence and undergo a Police background check.

This is a seasonal position with a starting date of June 11th, 2019 and working until August 31st, 2019. The hourly rate range for this position is $14.70. Hours of work per week will vary and will include weekends and evenings.

Part Time Facilities (Part Time Position) - open until position is filled

Reporting to Lead Hand Custodial the custodian will ensure the proper cleanliness of municipal facilities including minor maintenance work.

Primary responsibility is for the effective use of proper methods and materials in cleaning and otherwise caring for building areas and equipment. Work is performed within well-established routines and procedures.

This position requires predominantly walking and standing. Normal work time is spent indoors with occasional outdoor periods. Occasional periods of high levels of physical exertion are required. This includes lifting, walking, bending and standing.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a Custodial service industry, as well as mechanical aptitude. An ability to interact well with the public, staff and volunteers is essential by providing superior customer service to a diverse client base in a friendly and knowledgeable manner.
