The Town of Huntsville requires a visionary and innovate leader to fill the position of Director of Operations and Protective Services.

Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer and, recognizing the unlimited potential of this vibrant community and the importance of achieving strategic goals and objectives, the Director will lead departments responsible for parks, cemeteries, engineering, roads and fire. You will use your strong leadership and financial skills to guide the Town of Huntsville through interesting and challenging projects. In addition to leading your respective departments, you will instill corporate values and strategically tie your departments to the municipality’s strategic goals and objectives. Working with stakeholders and Town Council, you will provide information on emerging policy and relative professional and departmental issues as well as options and recommendations enabling the municipality to make informed decisions on behalf of the community.

As a seasoned candidate, you are an innovative and motivational leader who has had responsibility for providing effective leadership in your respective environments. You are vision oriented, possess strong political acuity and interpersonal skills and have a genuine belief in the value of public participation and the proven ability to develop credibility and work effectively with elected officials, employees and external stakeholders.

Professional Qualifications

Ideally, the successful candidate would possess a degree in Public Administration, Finance, Business or Civil Engineering with at least 5 to 10 years’ experience managing a significant municipal division. Along with possessing excellent communications skills you are a team leader with a collaborative approach adept at building relationships and a culture of respect and accountability, complemented with a successful history and in-depth knowledge of best practices in managing a complex operations and protective services division. You will also possess a financial background with experience in budgeting, financial reporting and capital asset management. To complement these features knowledge of lean practices and background in implementation to improve quality of process outputs is an asset.

Downtown Huntsville BIA Assistant

Job Title: Downtown Huntsville BIA Assistant
Permanent Position: Part-time (20 hours per week, 4 hours a day)

Reports to: BIA Manager

 

Job Summary:

  • Provides administrative support to the Manager and the Board of Directors.
  • Interacts with Downtown Huntsville BIA business owners and property owners, Town staff, and the general public
  • Provides membership communications
  • Assists with event development and delivery, as well as other on the street initiatives
  • Provides prompt response to all inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner
  • Encourages the promotion of the downtown at every opportunity
  • Demonstrates exemplary customer relations skills that project a superior company image.

Qualifications: 

  • Post-secondary education or related work experience preferred
  • Experience providing administrative support
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Professional telephone manner
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
  • Computer application skills, specifically word processing
  • Software skills, specifically Excel and Photoshop (an asset)

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Liaise with membership and other groups in face-to-face conversations, zoom and over the telephone
  • Liaise between Town departments and membership regarding downtown events and promotions, road closures, beautification, downtown housekeeping, etc
  • Foster and maintain a pleasant working relationship with stakeholders: members, Town staff, property owners/managers, and suppliers
  • Assist with Main Street construction initiatives as directed by the Manager
  • Attend board / committee meetings, and conduct meeting minutes
  • Assist with downtown beatification efforts
  • Update and maintain the membership database
  • Aid in the preparation and distribution of BIA membership communications
  • Responsible for keeping up-to-date with current local news and events, and clipping and filing downtown information from local newspapers
  • Provide support for events / on the street initiatives (such as Downtown Dollars) to Manager as needed
  • Assist in outcome reporting for BIA led initiatives
  • Updates and maintain policies, procedures, and by-laws as directed by the Manager
  • Attend Downtown Board after-hours meetings and events as needed
  • Other associated duties and special projects as assigned

Working Conditions:

Occasionally visit members on-site (i.e. retail stores, offices). Work 20 hours per week, 4 hours a day during office hours of 8am – 4:30pm. Attendance is required at some after-hours meetings. Attendance is occasionally required for weekend events, approximately four times per year. All overtime hours must be approved in advance with the Manager. This position will be paid on an hourly basis, $16.00/ hour with no additional benefits.

 Skate Patroller(s)

The Town of Huntsville has an opening for part-time Skate Patrollers at the Canada Summit Centre.

Reporting to the Recreation & Leisure Coordinator, the Skate Patroller is to maintain diligent safety supervision in public skating while enforcing rules and regulations. This position will recognize and respond to any first aid incidents as required. In addition, this position will also perform administrative and record keeping tasks such as tracking number of skaters, and ensure all supplies are prepared.

Candidates must have Standard First Aid Certification and have excellent customer service skills. A CSA approved Helmet and Skates are also required.

The starting hourly rate for this position is $15.08. Hours include Evening and Weekends and some weekdays during Holidays (PA Days, Christmas, Family Day & March Break).

 Fall/Winter Seasonal Operator(s)

This contract position starts immediately and runs to approximately April 15, 2022, for our fall and winter seasons. The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of heavy equipment operation and posses a minimum of a valid DZ licence. This position will require the successful candidate to work independently and make appropriate decisions and also as part of a team under general guidance of the Roads Foreman or his designate. For the winter season this position will rotate from morning to afternoon shift every other week and will be a 40 hour per week shift.  This position is also required to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days every other week during the entire length of the winter season.

The current hourly rate for this position is $26.08.
