Human Resources Specialist - Full time position

The Town of Huntsville is currently looking to hire a Human Resources Specialist.

Under the general guidance of the Manager of Human Resources, the Human Resources (HR) Specialist manages comprehensive Health, Safety and Wellness programs including policies, procedures, training, budgets and plans for a healthy environment for the entire corporation. The HR Specialist provides expertise and leadership in all Health, Safety, Wellness and Workers’ Compensation claims management related to workplace injury or absence, in support of management throughout the Town. The HR Specialist leads and facilitates integrated disability management programs, including comprehensive absence management and employee workplace re-integration through planning, implementation and co-ordination of early and safe return to work. The HR Specialist ensures that the Town is compliant with regulations, standards and policies set forth by governing bodies and tracks all changes in relevant legislation ensuring those changes are reflected in program practices. Identifying issues and business needs, the HR Specialist works closely with senior management to provide recommendations on policies, preventable incidents, and an overall improvement to the quality of work. The HR Specialist will assist in the Identification of staffing requirements and the development of staffing plans to support the Town’s short and long-term goals and objectives, including oversight of the Town’s full cycle recruitment process. The HR Specialist will provide advice to all levels of management on the interpretation and consistent application of relevant legislation, collective agreement language and HR policies, practices and procedures. In the absence of the Manager of Human Resources, they act as the duty officer in Human Resources.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelors Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management. A minimum of 5 years of directly related Human Resources management experience, and a CHRP/CHRL designation is required. In addition, an excellent working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Workers Compensation Act, Employment Standards Act, Pay Equity Act, Human Rights Code, Labour Relations Act and collective agreements is a must. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in an effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of personality types coupled with a strong political acuity is required.  Expertise and excellence in both written and verbal communication are also required. The successful applicant must also be proficient in the use of MS Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word and able to learn the use of additional software applications in-use by the Town.

The hourly range for this position is $85,558.20 to $94,348.80 (based on a 35-hour work week) and includes a comprehensive benefit package.

Manager of Parks and Cemeteries - Full time position

The Town of Huntsville’s Operations and Protective Services Division is currently looking to hire a Manager of Parks and Cemeteries.

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Protective Services, the Manager of Parks and Cemeteries is responsible for the business strategy, planning, and coordination of the delivery of services of all aspects of parks and cemetery operations within the Operations and Protective Services Division.  The Manager is responsible for submitting budget requests, tracking financial performance, and purchasing/procurement within the department. With an emphasis on and a commitment to customer service, the Manager will deliver a complete package of parks and cemetery services while liaising with other departments, the public and external agencies remaining highly responsive and available to the Town team, residents, visitors, and Council.

Ideally, the successful candidate would possess post-secondary education in Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Natural Resources Management, or a related discipline, or have the equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 5 years’ experience in a managerial role is required, preferably with parks operations, with cemetery operations included. In addition, financial experience in budgeting, forecasting, and planning is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of personality types coupled with a strong political acuity is required.  Expertise and excellence in both written and verbal communication are also required.   • We are currently seeking to fill part time Front of House Coordinator positions.
  • The Front of House Coordinator is responsible to ensure the smooth, efficient and professional operations of all front of house theatre operations. The Front of House Coordinator will ensure that all customers, clients, producers, entertainers, etc. have an exceptional experience through the delivery of all show services including but not limited to: pre-show set-ups, food and beverage services, volunteer management, other services as identified and post-show duties.
  • Most importantly you love dealing with the public and are genuinely customer service focused. You will have an applied diploma in hospitality/theatre or an equivalent number of years in the field and a High School Diploma will also be considered with strong analytical skills as well as an ability to make decisions independently.  Experience in food, beverage and cash handling is an asset. Seasonal Operator - Temporary position

This contract position starts immediately and runs to approximately May 17, 2024, for the Winter season. The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of heavy equipment operation and posses a minimum of a valid DZ licence. This position will require the successful candidate to work independently and make appropriate decisions and also as part of a team under general guidance of the Roads Foreman or his designate. During the winter season this position will rotate from morning to afternoon shift every other week and will be a 40 hour per week shift.  This position is also required to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days every other week during the entire length of the winter season.

Experience operating self-propelled floor cleaner and other custodial equipment as well as WHMIS and First Aid Certification is considered an asset. Must possess excellent customer service skills and be willing to perform various duties in a range of weather conditions and must have a valid Class G driver’s license.

Skate Patroller - Part time position

The Town of Huntsville has an opening for part-time Skate Patrollers at the Canada Summit Centre.

Reporting to the Recreation & Leisure Coordinator, the Skate Patroller is to maintain diligent safety supervision in public skating while enforcing rules and regulations. This position will recognize and respond to any first aid incidents as required. In addition, this position will also perform administrative and record keeping tasks such as tracking number of skaters, and ensure all supplies are prepared.

Candidates must have Standard First Aid Certification and have excellent customer service skills. A CSA approved Helmet and Skates are also required.

The starting hourly rate for this position is $17.21. Hours include Evening and Weekends and some weekdays during Holidays (PA Days, Christmas Break, Family Day & March Break).

Youth Instructor - Part time position

The Town of Huntsville is a scenic tourist-based community located in Muskoka cottage country. With a population approaching 20,000, it is the largest community in the District of Muskoka and is fashioned as a vibrant and dynamic destination to live, work and play.

The Town of Huntsville is looking for enthusiastic, customer service-oriented individuals for a part-time position of Youth Instructor.  Under the direction of the Recreation and Leisure Coordinator the Youth Instructor will be responsible for leading and facilitating for youth programs.  Facilitation of programs will include assisting with program develop, creating lesson plans and program delivery. A youth instructor will ensure instruction is clear and modifies/adapts programming for all skill levels and ensures a safe environment for all participants. This role includes communicating with parents and guards, following all town of Huntsville policies and procedures, and having fun. Programs include arts/crafts, sport and active games.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children (ages 4 -17), would have creative program delivery skills, good interpersonal and organizational skills. You must have the availability to work flexible hours which include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Relevant Qualifications include:

  • Standard First Aid and CPR. 
  • High Five – PHCD is an asset.
