(HUNTSVILLE, ON) This past summer, the Town of Huntsville encouraged residents and visitors alike to take the #healthyhuntsville pledge when visiting downtown to shop, eat, work, or for an event. The Town of Huntsville would like to congratulate the 30 individuals who participated in the challenge in 2018.

Aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle and walking in the downtown core, individuals who took the pledge promised to park their vehicles a few blocks away and walk to Main Street, and contribute to alleviating some of the parking pressures closer to the Main Street. Participants also enlisted their family and friends, bringing total participants up to over 50.

Huntsville has hundreds of parking spots in less than a 5-minute walk to Main Street. On-street parking continues to be available until November 1st in many areas, and while the challenge is formally over for the summer, the Town encourages those coming downtown to add a little exercise to their day by parking a bit further away and walking to the Main Street area. It is a great way to enjoy how beautiful Huntsville is, stay fit and who knows what you might notice that you haven’t before.

Participants who posted their walking efforts to social media with the hashtag #healthyhuntsville were entered into a draw. Congratulations to Melissa Cilliers and Leigh Fettes who are the recipients of a prize pack courtesy of the program sponsors Downtown Huntsville BIA and Algonquin Outfitters.

From November to April, parking on the side streets changes to accommodate snow removal. Visit Huntsville.ca/parking for a complete summer and winter maps of public parking in Huntsville.
