(HUNTSVILLE, ON) Mark your calendars, as The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department is ramping up for the 29th annual Project Porchlight Food Drive, taking place this year on Wednesday December 6, starting at 6:00pm.

Project Porchlight is an evening when the flashing lights and wail of sirens is something to feel good about, as emergency vehicles go up and down our streets collecting healthy non-perishable food donations door-to-door across our communities.

“The Food Drive has been a real tradition with the members of the fire department for a very long time, and everyone, from the volunteers to the residents who contribute, are always so supportive and giving. We are truly grateful for that generosity,” said Mike Vadlja, Fire Prevention Officer for the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department, “The Salvation Army is now serving roughly 300 families per month so donations are needed more than ever.”

Please leave your porch light on and listen for the sounds of Santa, with the help of local fire departments and other community volunteers, coming by to pick up your food donation.

Bags to pack your food donations are available at various food stores throughout the community. The collected food is distributed by the Salvation Army to those in need throughout the year.

You can also drop food donations off at the following locations:

·         Huntsville Fire Hall Station #1; 1 Payne Drive

·         The Salvation Army in Huntsville; 4 Mary Street E.

·         Port Sydney Fire Hall; 387 South Mary Lake Road

·         Lake of Bays Fire Halls, 1007 Limberlost Rd., 2309 Limberlost Rd., and 1230 Fox Point Rd. in Huntsville; and 12 University St., Baysville.
