Municipal Department Update: Director of Operations and Protective Services Discusses Dust Suppression on Huntsville Roads

Posted On Friday June 11, 2021

Director of Operations and Protective Services discusses dust suppression on Huntsville roads. Watch the June 10 video or review the highlights:

  • Calcium chloride is used on Huntsville’s gravel roads to help with dust. It doesn’t evaporate, but attracts moisture and is used for dust suppression.
  • By using calcium chloride, it assists in packing the road gravel in firmly, making the road surface hard and assists in reducing the maintenance costs for the road.
  • Crews are out now (June 11) to apply this to our roads and will continue over the few weeks until completed. Please remember to give our crews room as they operate.
