Media Release: Covid-19 Update: Huntsville Opens Registration for Programming in Anticipation of Step One Reopening

(Huntsville, ON)  The Ontario Government has announced that on Friday, June 11, 2021 the Province will move into Step One of its Roadmap to Reopen, based on the provincewide vaccination rate and continuing improvements in key public health indicators.

In anticipation of entering Step One, the Town of Huntsville will be opening registration for a few outdoor fitness classes, outdoor swimming lessons as well as summer day camp. Programming will not commence until guidance has been given from the Chief Medical Officer of Health and the Province however tentative program dates have been established. Staff are working closely with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit on the reopening guidelines to adhered to the government’s safety measures.

Under the Step One roadmap, outdoor fitness classes for up to 10 people max and day camps are permitted to open, provided safety measures and physical distancing are in place. Please note, the Canada Summit Centre and Active Living Centre still remain closed for indoor recreational use.

Summit Summer Day Camp
Registration opens June 16 at 8:30am
. Due to Covid-19 the programs will have a limited amount of spaces available. Day camp is planned to start July 5, 2021 in full week sessions at $190.00 (plus HST) per child, per week. To register for day camp online visit Huntsville.ca and select one of the follow camp options:

  • Wilderness Adventurers (Ages 5 – 7 Years)
  • Junior Explorers (Ages 6- 9 Years)
  • Forest Rangers (Ages 8 -12 years)

In order to ensure the health and safety for campers, staff and parents, Day Camp at the Canada Summit Centre will include the following safety measures and program adjustments:

  • Face Masks will be required for all.
  • Modified programming such as activities and games have been adapted to include physical distancing measures.
  • Small camp numbers which is based on the guidance provided by the ministry of health.
  • Daily COVID screening which will be an electronic form to be filled out each day prior to camp.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting procedures have been enhanced. Program spaces and materials will be sanitized regularly.
  • Where possible, campers will be given their own set of supplies for the duration of the camp week.
  • No transportation or day trips will be occurring. All programming will take place at the Canada Summit Centre, with a majority of programming occurring outdoors.

Outdoor Aquafitness classes  
Registration for outdoor aquafitness classes opens June 8th at 8:30am. Discover a challenging and fast paced water workout fitness class held at two outdoor locations in Huntsville. An excellent opportunity for those who want to use the benefits of the water to assist with muscle toning and strengthening for a no to low impact workout. Aquafitness classes are scheduled to start June 14. Please note, that our classes will have a maximum of 10 people to adhere to Provincial Covid-19 protocols. Outdoor Swimming Lessons
Registration opens for a variety of swimming lessons for all ages on June 14th, 2021 at 8:30am. Classes will have a tentative start date of July 5th, 2021 at both Port Sydney and Hutcheson Beach. Register online or learn more at Huntsville.ca.
