Swim Advisory Lifted for Port Sydney Beach

Update: The swim advisory for Port Sydney Beach has been lifted. The retesting showed safe bacteria levels in the water. Town of Huntsville swimming lessons will resume at Port Sydney Beach. 

Based on beach water samples collected on July 19, 2023, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has issued a swim advisory for Port Sydney Beach. Town of Huntsville swimming lessons will move from Port Sydney Beach to Hutchison Beach while the swim advisory remains in effect.

Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department Responds to Early Morning Fire

Around 4 am, Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a report of a basement fire. Crews arrived on scene, and after observing heavy smoke, suppressed and contained the fire in the basement. The first floor sustained heavy smoke damage, with total damage estimated at around $400,000.

The fire department is investigating whether there were any working smoke or carbon monoxide alarms in the home at the time of the fire.

Road Closure - July 19, 2023

Please be advised that Wilmott Street from Main Street West to East Elliott Street will be closed to traffic on July 19, 2023, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The roads will be closed for sewer/storm repairs and only open for emergency vehicle access. For a detailed road closure map and information, visit: huntsville.ca.

Nuit Blanche North Road and Parking Closures - July 22, 2023

Residents are advised Nuit Blanche North will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2023 and will impact traffic and parking in downtown Huntsville in the evening of Saturday, July 22 and the early morning of Sunday, July 23.

The roads and parking lots affected are:

  • Main Street will be closed from Centre Street to Brunel Road from 4 pm on Saturday, July 22, reopening at 4 am on Sunday, July 23. Detour signage will be posted.

(Huntsville, ON) As of 4 pm on July 11, 2023, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has lifted the Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) that has been in place since June 1, 2023, at 12:01 am. In the absence of the RFZ, the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department has set the fire danger rating to Moderate.
