Fire Department
The
Huntsville Fire Department responds to approximately 300
calls a year in an area of approximately 500 square miles.
Under the direction of a full-time Fire Chief, the Department
has 60 volunteer firefighters who operate from two halls:
one in downtown Huntsville, and the other in the Village
of Port Sydney.
The
area protected by the Huntsville firefighters includes a great
variety of buildings from rural residential to heavy industrial,
and two major highways (#11 and #60) which bring many thousands
of cottagers and other visitors to the region year-round.
Thanks
to a major fund-raising effort by the volunteer firefighters a
new Firehall for Station #1 in Huntsville was completed in 1995.
The
Firehall, located on Payne Drive, off of Centre Street North is
a modern, well-equipped station. The Firehall has facilities
to provide easy access for response to emergencies and provides
training in the latest technology for firefighting to the firefighters.
Station
#3, located on Muskoka Road #10 in Port Sydney has recently been
upgraded with a Rescue/Equipment Truck. This will provide
the Community with a more efficient response to emergency situations.
