Huntsville Cultural Strategy
The future of arts, culture and heritage!
Huntsville is a special place in Muskoka with a wealth of arts, culture, and heritage organizations, places, and people. To make sure that the town makes the most of these assets, Town Council determined in 2009 that a plan was needed and authorized application for funding.
The Town was successful in receiving a grant from the Province of Ontario's Creative Community Prosperity Fund to develop a Cultural Strategy. Starting in 2010, the Town of Huntsville went through a process to create this Cultural Strategy: Terms of reference and expected outcomes were defined, Requests for Proposal were sought, eight excellent submissions were reviewed and TCI Consultants were contracted. Work got underway immediately to communicate, advertise, gather information, engage the community, conduct interviews, hold meetings, and administer survey questionnaires.
Members of cultural organizations or institutions, youth, seniors, artists, patrons of the arts, heritage advocates and preservationists, and residents who are passionate about culture and its connection to the community, across all demographic sectors, all provided input to the Cultural Strategy.
The result is that the Town of Huntsville now has a cultural strategy that gives the community and Town government a strategic direction. This direction will help individuals and cultural organizations to forge relationships with each other within the context of a shared strategic vision for culture. The Town of Huntsville Cultural Strategy was accepted at Town Council on February 22, 2011. Please note that all strategic items with budget implications will be subject to committee and council approval prior to any funds being expended.
