Driveway & Entrance Permits

You must have an entrance permit before you can get a building permit. Here's how our process works:

  • Before putting in any type of driveway/entrance into a property from a municipally owned road, you must fill out an entrance permit and deliver it to the Public Works Department
  • Pay $110.00 entrance permit fee and $110.00 deposit - you will then be given a lot identification tag to be post on a stake or tree as close to the centre of the proposed driveway/entrance as possible
  • An inspector from Public Works will come to inspect your proposed driveway/entrance and if approved for installation, you will be contacted by the Public Works staff and a signed copy of your entrance permit will be sent to you
  • This copy of your entrance permit will also indicate if you need to install a culvert under your driveway/entrance (and will give the type and size of culvert if needed)
  • You will then need to refer to the first page of the entrance permit for detailed installation instructions. This page will not be sent to you unless requested
  • After the driveway/entrance has been installed, you will need to call Public Works for a final inspection
  • If your new driveway/entrance passes the final inspection you will be contacted by the Public Works staff and a copy of your entrance permit with the final inspection signature will be sent to you
  • If it has not been more than one year since your driveway/entrance was approved for installation, you will be sent a deposit refund cheque in the amount of $110.00

Please note that all entrance permits expire one year after they are approved for installation and the deposit funds will be lost.
