Earth Week

Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd. It is one of the most celebrated environmental events worldwide. This page describes the ways that Huntsville is celebrating; for an entire week! Join us!

The Town of Huntsville in partnership with the Huntsville Public Library, Transition Huntsville, and EcoMuskoka Conservation celebrated an entire week of activities with you and your family from April 18-24, 2016. Reel Alternatives presents the film: "All the Time in the World" about a family who chooses a simpler life.

7 P.M. at the Algonquin Theatre. Ticket $7 before at Seven Main Café or $8 at the door.

Earth Day Story Time and Craft at the Huntsville Public Library from 11 to 11:45 A.M. For ages 2 to 5 years old. Children are welcome to visit the Library for story time and enjoy songs, rhymes and finger plays. Selected picture books will be related to Earth Day. Story time will be followed by an up-cycle craft. Drop-in program.

10 A.M. to 2 P.M.

Annual Compost Giveaway. Pick up free nutrient rich compost soil, just in time for spring! The Town of Huntsville, in partnership with the District Municipality of Muskoka, will be giving away free compost at Madill Works Yard located at 169 Madill Church Road. Residents are responsible for shovelling their own compost. Want to know more about Muskoka's compost? View the brochure called "The Dirt on Muskoka's Compost"

Things to remember:

  • First come, first served while supplies last.
  • Bring your shovel. No motorized equipment allowed.
  • Bring a container or bag for your compost.

Clean Up Huntsville! As winter disappears, litter starts to appear. Join us for a community-wide spring clean-up. We have all the tools to help you organize a roadside clean-up in your neighbourhood. Contact Sustainability Coordinator, Rebecca Francis by using the contact information on the right-hand side of this page. She will work with you to organize a route, supplies, and waste pick-up.
