Mandate

The mandate of the Economic Development Department is to support the creation of an atmosphere conducive to attracting, promoting and marketing economic development opportunities within Huntsville in order to:

• maintain, expand and improve local employment opportunities
• expand the municipal tax base
• work with existing businesses
• support marketing event tourism. 

Huntsville's Economic Development Strategy is outlined within the Community Master Plan. This plan is reviewed every four years following municipal elections. The purpose of the CMP is to provide an opportunity for elected officials to develop economic strategies based on community input. This strategy guides senior management and staff in setting priorities and identifying projects for the term of Council. The Community Master Plan is a living document that can be added to and altered as necessary. The plan integrates other current plans including:

• The Unity Plan
• The Community Improvement Plan
• The Official Plan
• The Cultural Plan
• Marketing Our Communities

Once the community master plan has been adopted by council, implementation and funding opportunities are sought from senior levels of government.
