Retail Sector Characteristics

The Town of Huntsville always impresses visitors by the high quality and large number of its retail stores not only in the downtown core, but also throughout the municipality.

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce has an impressive 553 members and actively pursues promotional opportunities for the good of all businesses in the Town of Huntsville and the Township of Lake of Bays.

Promoted through an active BIA (Business Improvement Area), Huntsville 's downtown core features over 120 interesting shops, restaurants, and services. A major restyling of the downtown core was approved in the Strategic Plan for Huntsville , September 2002. An extension to the historic Town Hall includes a multi-use Community Theatre.

Both the Chamber and the BIA are involved with promoting special events designed to attract visitors to their business areas. Some of these events include the annual Bathtub Derby and the Hay Days of Summer, as well as Midnight Madness (a downtown shopping event in mid-July), and the ever-popular Winterlude in February.
