Town
of Huntsville Community Economic Development Office
Economic
Development goals encompass social, educational, cultural, and
economic initiatives. Balanced development in all of these areas
grows a strong, vibrant, safe, and healthy community.
Huntsville
employs one full-time Economic Development and Grants Officer
who can assist you with acquiring information about the Town and
the District of Muskoka municipality. This individual is also
responsible for the Town's promotion and marketing and acts as
a liaison between various committees, local media, and organizations.
A committee of Council called the Economic Development
Committee (EDC), guides economic development strategies.

Business Improvement
Area (BIA)
The
Historic Downtown Huntsville BIA is comprised of a dedicated group
of taxpayers who have volunteered to pay an extra levy on top
of property and business taxes in order to beautify and promote
their area as a shopping and business district.

Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce is a membership driven
business organization whose mission is to support the economic

Muskoka Futures Development Corporation
Incorporated
in 1987, the Muskoka Community Futures Development Corporation
(MCFDC) operates throughout the Muskoka region as a community-based,
not-for profit organization partnering with the District of Muskoka,
local municipalities, businesses, individuals, and other community
organizations to promote sustainable economic development.
Assistance
for businesses and for community-based projects includes:

Lending:
Loans and equity investments for business development and expansion
to a maximum of $125,000 based on job creation or maintenance.

Community
Economic Development Services: creating and aiding in the development
and completion of community based economic development projects.

Muskoka
Community Economic Development Initiative: Designed to assist not-for-profit organizations.

Self-Employment Benefit Program (SEB)
The
SEB Program allows Employment Insurance Benefits (EI) recipients
to continue receiving EI benefits while they get their new business
up and running. Individuals qualifying for this program receive
income support and business counseling (group training sessions
as well as one-on-one business counseling) following their acceptance
into the program. For many rural communities, it has been a catalyst
for entrepreneurship and small business development.

Women's Resource Centre (YWCA)
The
Women In Business Program is one of several programs through the
YWCA's Women's Resource Centre to support, empower, and enrich
the lives of women in Muskoka. The Women In Business Program was
created to assist women with the need and/or desire to become
self-employed.
